About UPS & Our Culture
Every package that moves through a UPS fulfillment center correctly begins with a Receiving Associate who inducted it into the system accurately. Receiving is the first checkpoint in our quality chain — the moment where physical freight meets digital record, and where any discrepancy between what was shipped and what arrived must be identified and documented before it can contaminate the downstream sort, track, and deliver operation. At UPS, our receiving associate positions are among the most systems-integrated roles on the warehouse floor — blending hands-on dock work with real-time data entry that directly impacts the accuracy of our global tracking network.
What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)
"Receiving at UPS is where everything starts and I take that responsibility seriously. I know that if I miss a scan or let a damaged item through without flagging it, the problem multiplies downstream. UPS gave me thorough training on the receiving system and I genuinely feel like a gatekeeper of the network every shift. The work is methodical, the pace is manageable, and the Teamsters wage and benefits are identical to every other role in the building. Best structured receiving associate job I have had in logistics." - Current Receiving Associate, Nashville, TN.
Role Overview & Responsibilities
As a UPS Receiving Associate, you manage the inbound freight gate of our fulfillment center — verifying arriving shipments against purchase orders, scanning every parcel into the receiving system, and flagging any discrepancy, damage, or compliance issue before a single package enters the active sort flow.
- Inbound Shipment Verification: Cross-reference arriving vendor shipments against digital purchase orders and inbound manifests, counting physical units against expected quantities and immediately documenting any shortage, overage, damage, or labeling discrepancy discovered at the dock door.
- Receiving System Entry: Scan every inbound package into UPS's warehouse management receiving module within the required timeframe, confirming barcode reads, correcting any label failures, and completing the system receipt that triggers inventory availability for outbound fulfillment.
- Damage Quarantine Processing: Identify and segregate damaged, leaking, or non-compliant inbound items at the point of receipt, tagging them for vendor return or disposal processing and preventing any compromised package from entering the active pick and sort system.
Benefits & Perks
UPS Receiving Associates receive Teamsters union wages with contractual annual raises, full medical, dental, and vision benefits, pension accrual, paid personal time, and UPS Earn & Learn tuition assistance. The structured, systems-oriented nature of this role creates a direct career pathway into UPS inventory management, supply chain coordination, and operations supervisor tracks for analytically driven associates.
