Role Overview & Responsibilities
As a UPS Hazmat Warehouse Specialist, you identify, audit, and process federally regulated hazardous materials packages inside our package center, ensuring full DOT and IATA compliance before any regulated item enters the outbound transportation stream.
- Regulated Package Identification: Audit inbound packages for hazardous material indicators — UN numbers, hazard class labels, and limited-quantity markings — using UPS's proprietary hazmat scanning and database verification system.
- Compliant Segregation & Storage: Place identified regulated items in designated hazmat holding areas with correct DOT placarding, ensuring incompatible hazard classes are stored separately per 49 CFR regulations at all times.
- Shipper Documentation Audit: Verify that all hazardous material shipments entering the outbound stream carry accurate Shipper's Declarations, proper UN specification packaging certifications, and correct emergency contact information before trailer loading.
