About UPS & Our Culture
Some of the most successful UPS careers in America started with a 4 AM alarm clock and a preload shift. Our Part-Time Preload positions run from approximately 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM — making them the single best-scheduled entry point in our entire part-time warehouse jobs lineup for students, parents, and professionals who need their afternoons completely free. At UPS, UPS part-time jobs on the preload shift come with the full weight of Teamsters union representation behind them, meaning your wages, benefits, and working conditions are contractually guaranteed — not managed at management's discretion.
What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)
"The preload shift changed my entire financial situation. I wake up early, work a focused four-to-five hour shift, and by 9 AM I am done for the day. The union wage is higher than I expected for a part-time warehouse job, the medical insurance is incredible for what I pay into it, and the Earn & Learn tuition money covered my certification program entirely. I tell everyone looking for part-time jobs near me to start here." - Current Part-Time Preload Associate, Minneapolis, MN.
Role Overview & Responsibilities
As a UPS Part-Time Preload Associate, you sort inbound overnight volume and build outbound package car loads during the critical early-morning window inside our package center, ensuring every delivery vehicle is loaded and driver-ready before the start of the day's delivery operation.
- Belt Sorting & Car Assignment: Pull packages from the inbound conveyor belt and route them to the correct delivery car, cage, or shelf slot using load chart reference and barcode scanning without interrupting the continuous belt flow.
- Sequence Load Construction: Build package car loads in precise delivery stop order, positioning every parcel label-out and shelf-correct so the driver can pull every stop in sequence without rearranging any freight.
- Air Commit Compliance: Segregate and prioritize UPS Next Day Air and 2nd Day Air packages at the point of belt induction, loading them into designated air-committed positions before any ground package enters the vehicle.
Benefits & Perks
UPS Part-Time Preload Associates earn Teamsters union wages with an early-morning shift differential, full medical, dental, and vision benefits, pension contributions, paid personal time, and UPS Earn & Learn tuition assistance up to $25,000. The early end time — typically before 9:30 AM — makes this the most schedule-friendly of all part-time warehouse jobs for anyone who guards their afternoons.
