The UPS Package Center Manager is one of the most operationally complex and financially rewarding management positions in ground logistics — responsible for the daily performance of a facility that processes tens of thousands of packages per shift, manages 80 to 300 hourly associates and supervisors, and maintains the service quality standards that 117 years of the UPS brand depend on. If you are searching for operations manager jobs near me in a logistics environment where your decisions have direct, measurable impact on customer experience, where the career advancement track is among the fastest in the Fortune 50, and where the total compensation package significantly exceeds comparable management positions in most other industries, the UPS Package Center Manager role is where operations careers reach their full potential.
What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)
"Running a UPS package center is the most operationally demanding and most professionally satisfying management role I have had in 20 years of logistics. I manage a P&L, I develop supervisors, I own service quality for 15,000 daily packages, and I have direct accountability for safety performance that is measured daily, weekly, and monthly at the district level. The total compensation at center manager level — base, bonus, and equity — significantly exceeds what comparable operations management roles pay at competitors. If you want a management career that pushes you hard and pays you well, UPS is the answer." - Current Package Center Manager, Tucson, AZ.
Role Overview & Responsibilities
As a UPS Package Center Manager, you lead the full daily operations of an assigned package center — managing driver dispatch, sort operations, customer service, vehicle maintenance coordination, and associate development — against daily, weekly, and monthly performance targets that span safety, service quality, productivity, and cost efficiency simultaneously.
- Daily Operations Leadership: Open and close the package center on a daily operational cycle — conducting morning driver dispatch briefings using ORION route data, monitoring preload quality through DIAD-reported missed scan rates before drivers depart, reviewing midday service failure alerts in the UPS COMPASS performance dashboard, and conducting end-of-day service recovery planning for any packages that did not complete delivery during the route window.
- Associate Development & Labor Relations: Lead a management team of 3 to 8 supervisors and 80 to 300 hourly Teamsters-represented associates — conducting regular supervisor one-on-ones, facilitating progressive discipline conversations within the parameters of the Teamsters national master agreement, and managing the local grievance resolution process in partnership with the district labor relations manager to minimize arbitration escalations.
- Center P&L Management: Monitor and manage the package center's weekly cost per package, overtime percentage, misload rate, and vehicle maintenance cost against the district-assigned budget — identifying cost variance root causes within 48 hours of weekly report publication and deploying corrective operational changes that restore performance to plan before the next budget cycle closes.
Benefits & Perks
UPS Package Center Managers receive a competitive salary with annual performance bonus, company equity participation, full company-paid medical, dental, and vision benefits, a 401(k) with company match, a defined management pension plan, generous paid vacation, and access to UPS's accelerated management development curriculum.
